Date of Discovery and Establishment:-In the monsoon of 1937, Valley of flowers has been discovered by Frank S. Smythe, who is a mountaineer, explorer and a botanist. He has also written a book named ” The Valley of Flowers” that unveil the floral splendors of the region.trekupindia

In the year 1982, “Valley of flowers” has attained the status of National Park and also a Natural World Heritage Site due to its diverse flora.

Floral Species Available Here:-Valley of flowers is a land where some beautiful 520 floral species like the Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy and the Cobra Lily can be seen. This region is also dotted with numerous alpine flowers and home to rare wildlife species such as the Asiatic black bear, Snow leopard, Brown bear, Musk Deer, Blue sheep and colorful butterflies.

Time To Visit: The most suitable time to visit this alluring valley of flowers is from July to August. During this summer period, the snow of the area started to melt and colorful flowers blossom.

Hemkund Sahib: Hemkund Saheb is a popular trekking and pilgrimage destination for Hindus and Sikh. It is just 15 km trek from Govindghat. A tranquil lake named Hemkund(4329) is also located here. A pious Gurudwara and a Laxman temple is built very near to this lake which thronged by many pilgrims every year.

Joshimath: It is one of the famous pilgrimage destination of Hindus in Uttarakhand. In 8th century, Adi Guru Shankaracharya has established Joshimath. Temples of Nav Durga and Narsingh are available here. Joshimath also serves as the base camp for trekking to Valley of flowers.
